Iranian ‘Atabai’ to go to Dhaka fest

Iranian ‘Atabai’ is to compete at the 2022 Dhaka Int’l Film Festival in Bangladesh.

Iranian feature ‘Atabai’ has been selected to compete at the 20th edition of Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) in Bangladesh.

The movie is directed by the well-known Iranian actress Niki Karimi and it is her fifth feature-length film as a director.

Hadi Hejazifar, the star of iFilm’s ‘Standing in the Dust’ has penned the screenplay of the flick.

Javad Ezzati, Sahar Dolatshahi, Danial Noroush and Hejazifar are some of the cast members in ‘Atabai’.

“The 40-year-old Atabai lives with his father in a village called Pirkandi. Years ago, he left university just one year before his graduation because of unrequited love,” a synopsis to the film reads.

The movie has previously taken part in the Asia Pacific Screen Awards in Australia and the Cambridge Film Festival in the UK.

The website of the Dhaka Film Festival states the “DIFF is a bold expression of resistance against the decadence, vulgarity and cheap commercialism that pervades the mainstream Bangladesh film industry”.

The 20th edition of the event is scheduled for January 15-23, 2022.
